when to go
Iceland is not as cold as you think. and not as dark as you imagine. it is situated below the Arctic Circle, and benefits from the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, thereby protecting it from truly harsh winter weather.
average temperatures in the southern capital of Reykjavik range from minus 1.4°c in February up to over 12°c in August, with temperatures in the northern regions obviously slightly cooler.
for most holidays, no special clothing is needed. our advice is always to take several layers of clothing rather than one thick jumper or coat. where special clothing is required, it is provided!
during the summer months, nights are always light; in the northern towns during June the sun never fully sets. obviously the converse is also true – during January there will only be around 4 hours of daylight.
